Interviewer: What brought you to the garden?

Volunteer A: I only came for vegetables at first. Now I stay to help the next person get started.

Interviewer: How do you decide what needs doing?

Volunteer A: The rules said to water only our own plots. When my neighbor missed a week, I watered theirs too. I did not want their plants to suffer.

Interviewer: Has helping changed how you feel here?

Volunteer A: People say thank you, which makes me feel part of the garden. Sometimes I worry that if I stop helping, I will not feel welcome.
